An estimated 60,000 people will stream into San Francisco this week for Oracle’s OpenWorld conference, a tech gathering that runs Sunday through Thursday and has a speaker lineup including Intel CEO Brian Krzanich and Golden State Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts.

Oracle’s flagship conference is a fall staple in San Francisco and pulls people from all over the world.

“We put together an immersive next-generation experience designed to inspire Oracle customers, partners and enthusiasts toward new levels of personal and professional success,” Tania Weidick, Oracle vice president of event marketing, said in an e-mail.

Former Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, now the executive chairman, will kick off the event with a speech at 5 p.m. Sunday.

After the lectures and workshops, conference-goers can kick back. On Wednesday night, Elton John and Beck will perform at an Oracle Appreciation Event on Treasure Island, which will also include a Ferris wheel, arcade games and food.

While the hordes at Moscone Center discuss cloud computing and data storage, drivers can expect more traffic downtown. Howard Street between Third and Fourth streets will be closed through 5 p.m. Saturday, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. Taylor Street between O’Farrell and Ellis streets will also be closed until 10 a.m. Friday to accommodate the Oracle Java One Conference being held at the San Francisco Hilton, the agency said.

Muni routes near Moscone Center will be affected and riders may experience delays.
